Winning Ticket Hat

Winning Ticket Hat

This hat is a copy (somewhat) from a holiday commercial for the Michigan State Lottery. It's a close copy, but not quite the original.

150 yards worsted weight yarn

Sizes 6 & 7 – 16” circular needles

Size 7 double point needles, 1 set of 5 needles

1 stitch marker

Gauge: 5 stitches = 1”

Loop Stitch

Row 1: Insert needle into stitch as if to knit. Wind yarn around three times. Complete by knitting the stitch and removing from left needle as usual. Rep for every stitch.
Row 2: Remove loops off needle and place large remaining stitch on right needle. Repeat three more times. When there are four large loops on right needle, transfer back to left needle and knit, purl, knit, purl into all 4 stitches at once. Repeat across.

Using knitted cast on and smaller needles, cast on 88 stitches. Place marker and join, being careful not to twist stitches.

Knit in the round for 5 rounds.

Purl one round.

Change to larger needles and knit 12 rounds.

*Knit rows 1 & 2 of the Loop stitch.*

Knit 2 rounds.

Repeat between *’s once.

Knit 12 rounds.

Next round: *Knit 9 stitches, knit 2 together*, repeat to end of round.

Knit 1 round.

*Knit 8 stitches, knit 2 together*, repeat to end of round.

Knit 1 round.

*Knit 7 stitches, knit 2 together*, repeat to end of round.

Knit 1 round.

Repeat in this manner, changing over to double point needles when needed, until you have a total of 16 stitches remaining.

Knit 2 together around, 4 stitches remaining.

Break yarn leaving a 6” tail. Thread this through the remaining 4 stitches.

Weave in ends and block, if needed.

Wear your new hat to the store and buy yourself an instant lottery ticket.

Good Luck!
